宇和島闘牛
Japanese bull sumo where two bulls push each other out of a ring, no matadors, no blood, just massive bovine wrestling.
Uwajima's unique togyu tradition pits two bulls against each other in a sumo-style contest where the first to retreat loses. Unlike Spanish bullfighting, there are no weapons or injuries, it's pure pushing power. Held six times a year at a purpose-built arena, the atmosphere is intensely local with farmers cheering their prized bulls.
Check dates carefully. Tournaments are only held on specific days (January, April, July, August, October, November). January 2 is the New Year tournament.
