Utazu Seaside Park
landmark
うたづ臨海公園
Utazu Seaside Park is located in the northern part of the town of Utazu, facing the Seto Inland Sea.
Utazu grew wealthy on salt production from the eighteenth century, becoming one of Japan's top producers before the industry closed in 1972. The park that opened on the old evaporation ponds in 1989 includes a reconstructed salt field to mark that history. A separate building houses a cafe and playground, and the 2020-opened Shikoku Aquarium focuses on the marine life of the surrounding seas. The park faces the island-dotted Seto Inland Sea, with the Shiwaku Islands and the Seto Ohashi Bridge visible offshore. Visitors come in the evening to watch the sun sink into the water and see the bridge lights come on after dark.
