Famous for its alkaline waters containing sodium bicarbonate, which is believed to be fabulously soothing for the skin. In fact, the onsen is known as being one of Japan’s three top hot springs effective for maintaining beautiful skin. The area is also famous for green tea, as well as an innovative style of bathing which has ingeniously brought these two resources together by allowing you to soak in green tea-infused waters! A good onsen soak is said to induce deep sleep, and after this experience, you will no doubt sleep like a baby.
Local tips
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
