This modest museum occupies the first floor of an apartment building in a residential district in the north of Nagasaki, about a five-minute walk from Urakami Cathedral.
This free, modest museum on the first floor of an apartment building near Urakami Cathedral tells a concentrated story of Christian history in this district of Nagasaki. Two episodes anchor its permanent displays: the Fourth Urakami Crackdown of 1868 to 1873, when thousands of Christians were exiled across Japan at great cost of life, and the atomic bombing of August 9, 1945, which killed around 8,500 of the 12,000 Christians in the neighborhood. Films of Catholic interest play in the back, and Christian books and memorabilia are available near the entrance. Rotating smaller exhibitions run alongside the permanent collection.
