Overview

Ceramic art center showcasing Tobe-yaki pottery with exhibitions and hands-on workshop experiences.

Tobe-yaki is the regional pottery style of Ehime Prefecture, known for its translucent white glaze with hand-painted indigo blue designs. The Uchiharano Ceramic Art Museum in Tobe displays historical and contemporary examples of this tradition, from simple household bowls to more elaborate decorative works. Alongside the permanent collection, the museum runs regular hands-on workshops where visitors can try their hand at painting designs onto pre-formed pieces using the traditional cobalt pigment. Finished works are fired and can be shipped home. The town of Tobe itself has dozens of active kilns and studios, many open to visitors, making the museum a good starting point for a longer exploration of the craft.
