The Ubusunayama Tomb is a large round burial mound that was built in the mid-fifth century.
Built in the mid-fifth century and 55 meters in diameter, the Ubusunayama Tomb sits on a rise overlooking the Sea of Japan, where the ancient Tango kingdom conducted maritime trade with the Asian continent. Excavations in 1939 uncovered a stone coffin containing a bronze mirror, jade and glass beads, wooden bows, a sword with deer antler inlay, and body armor in the burial chamber. The king's coffin has since been reinterred within the mound. A small shrine sits at the top, and replicas of the burial goods are on display at the nearby Ancient Tango Village Museum, a short drive away.
