Tsurunoyu Onsen
鶴の湯温泉
Overview
The oldest of Nyuto Onsen's seven ryokan, with a milky-white sulfur outdoor bath continuously soaked in since the 1600s, when local lords used it as their official bath.
Tsurunoyu's main building is a thatched-roof samurai inn dating to the late Edo period, when it served as a designated bath for the Akita clan lords. The signature mixed-gender outdoor bath, milky-white from suspended sulfur particles, is fed directly from a 4-source spring without filtering or temperature control; the bath floor is sand and small stones the bather can feel. Tsurunoyu offers a Yumeguri-cho pass that includes admission to the other six Nyuto Onsen baths over 24 hours.
