Tsuruga Bay

敦賀湾
Bay spanning two quasi-national parks, lined with beaches and coastal viewpoints along the Sea of Japan.
Tsuruga Bay in Fukui sits at the overlap of two quasi-national parks, with forested headlands, clear water, and the Kehi Pine Grove along the shore, one of Japan's three most celebrated pine groves. The beaches at Suishohama and Kihama draw swimmers and snorkelers in summer. In winter, the focus shifts to the Tsuruga Fish Market and Echizen snow crabs, among the most prized in Japan. The bay has been a major port since ancient times, connecting Japan to mainland Asia, and a small museum near the harbor commemorates its history as a port of refuge for displaced people. Sightseeing boats run the coastal route outside of summer.
