Overview
1854 stone aqueduct using siphon physics to irrigate a plateau, with scheduled waterfall releases.
An 1854 stone aqueduct bridge that channels irrigation water across a gorge to rice paddies on the opposite plateau. Built by a village headman to end chronic drought, the bridge uses siphon engineering to push water uphill through stone pipes. Scheduled water releases send dramatic arcs of water cascading from the bridge's center — a spectacle designed to flush sediment from the pipes. National Important Cultural Property.
