Kumano Kodo shrine famous for its massive, ancient cedar trees and pure natural spring.
A notable sub-shrine along the Nakahechi route of the Kumano Kodo. It is famous for the Nonaka-no-Ipposugi, a cluster of giant ancient cedar trees that miraculously survived government logging campaigns in the Meiji era. A nearby natural spring provides refreshing, crystal-clear water for tired hikers.
Fill your water bottles at the Nonaka-no-Shimizu spring at the base of the hill before tackling the next section of the trail.
