Vintage winter train heated by a potbelly stove where staff grill squid and pour warm sake.
From December through March, this vintage railcar crosses the snowy Tsugaru Plain heated by a potbelly wood stove in the middle of the carriage. Staff grill dried squid on the stove top and serve warm sake as snow-covered rice fields scroll past the windows. The 45-minute ride from Tsugaru-Goshogawara to Tsugaru-Nakazato feels like stepping into the Showa era.
Check for matinee performances. They're often cheaper and less crowded than evening shows.
