Overview

Striking space dedicated to the work of architect Toyo Ito, with sea views & outdoor installations.

Dedicated to the work of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Toyo Ito, this museum on Omishima Island is itself a striking piece of architecture, two angular steel structures that seem to float above the hillside. Inside, rotating exhibitions showcase Ito's design philosophy through models, drawings, and multimedia installations. The site overlooks the Seto Inland Sea, and outdoor installations continue the dialogue between building and landscape. Architecture fans will find it well worth the ferry or cycling detour from the main Shimanami Kaido route.
