Overview
Interactive volcano museum documenting the 1977 and 2000 Mt. Usu eruptions, with seismographs and a 4D theater.
The museum occupies the visitor center for the Toya-Usu Geopark on the lakefront in Toyako Onsen. The 2000 eruption section preserves a salvaged section of road buckled by the lava push. The 4D theater simulates the 1977 eruption from inside an evacuating school. Outside, a footbath fed by Toyako Onsen runs along the lake.
Local tips
Combined ticket with the Mt. Usu Ropeway saves about ¥400.
