Overview
The world's only museum dedicated to sand sculpture, with massive installations that change theme annually.
Adjacent to the Tottori Sand Dunes, this unique museum commissions world-class sculptors to create enormous sand artworks on a different global theme each year. Past themes include Egypt, Southeast Asia, and Scandinavia. The sculptures are created from sand and water alone, no glue, and are deliberately destroyed each year to start fresh.
Local tips
Visit during the new exhibition's first week (usually mid-April). The sculptures are sharpest before wind erosion begins.
