Karo Port Fish Market
market
賀露港鮮魚市場
A working fishing port market where locals buy crab straight off the boats and eat it grilled on the spot.
Karo Port is where Tottori's famous matsuba crab (snow crab) comes in fresh from November to March. The adjacent Kanikko Market lets you pick live crabs, have them boiled or grilled on the spot, and eat at communal tables overlooking the harbor. In summer, the white squid (shiro-ika) is equally prized.
Visit November-March for matsuba crab season. The 'parent' crabs (oyagani) are cheaper and just as delicious as the premium grade.
