Overview
Wave-carved sandstone shelves stepping into the Pacific, with tide pools and layered rock formations.
South of central Shirahama, this stretch of coastline features the Senjo-jiki rock platform, thousands of years of wave erosion carved sandstone into layered shelves that extend into the ocean like a giant's staircase. Tide pools harbor crabs, sea urchins, and anemones during low tide. The adjacent Shirarahama Beach offers white sand imported from Australia alongside natural Japanese coves, but the rock platforms see far fewer visitors.
