Tomoyama Park in Shima is surrounded on three sides by Ago Bay.
Tomoyama Park in Shima sits on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by Ago Bay, and the Kirigaki viewpoint inside the park puts you closer to the bay's jagged coastline and tree-covered islands than the better-known overlooks at Yokoyama or Mt. Konpira. Coming around the spring or fall equinox at sunset is worth planning for. The viewpoint sits in a dry, shrubby clearing that contrasts with the dense evergreens blanketing the bay's other islands. The park runs ecotourism programs including sea kayaking, cycling, and nature tours. Jiro Rokuro Swimming Beach is nearby, and campsites with equipment rental make it possible to stay and watch the bay after dark.
