Overview
1914 red-brick station building by Kingo Tatsuno; 2012 restoration returned the original pre-WWII three-floor profile.
The 1914 red-brick Marunouchi-side station building, designed by Kingo Tatsuno (the architect also responsible for the Bank of Japan headquarters). The third floor and twin domes were destroyed in WWII bombing and replaced with a flat roof in 1947; the 2012 restoration returned the building to its full pre-war three-floor profile and dome geometry. The interior of the south dome has restored relief sculptures of the eight Chinese zodiac directional animals.
Local tips
Entry to the dome interiors is free; access is via the station's Marunouchi north and south gate ticket halls. The Marunouchi central plaza is the canonical photo angle.
