Overview
A massive monthly flea market at Toji Temple where locals hunt for antiques, ceramics, and street food.
On the 21st of every month, the grounds of Toji Temple transform into Kobo-ichi, a sprawling flea market with over 1,200 stalls selling antique kimono, vintage ceramics, handmade crafts, bonsai, and Japanese street food. Named after Kobo Daishi (Kukai), the market has run for centuries. Early birds get the best finds from dealers who travel from across Kansai.
Local tips
Arrive by 7:00 AM for the best antique ceramics. Professional dealers start packing up by noon. The 25th Tenjin-ichi at Kitano Tenmangu is the sister market.
