Tohoku sashiko embroidery workshop, geometric reinforcement stitching born from northern winters.

Learn Tohoku's traditional sashiko running-stitch embroidery, originally used to reinforce and insulate working clothes in the harsh northern winters. The geometric white-on-indigo patterns have become an internationally admired textile art.

Local tips

Start with the coaster pattern. It teaches the fundamental running stitch and finishes in about an hour.
