The Sugar Road
シュガーロード
3.6Est. 90Fukuoka, Kyushu
JTA Approved
This 228-kilometer highway charts sugar's path from Dejima's port to local confectionery. Driving the full route is impractical. The actual draw is tasting the result in the region's surviving sweets: castella sponge cake, marubolo, and yokan bean jelly, its texture sharpened by the namesake ingredient.
