Iron trees Important Cultural Property These unusual trees crafted of cast iron were made in the Heian period (794–1185) and are believed to be the work of members of Mokusa Kaji, a local group of blacksmiths. The trees were passed down through the generations at Senjuin, one of the sub-temples of Mōtsūji, and are believed to have decorated a room in the residence of the third Fujiwara lord Hidehira (1122?–1187).
