Overview
Birthplace of shirokuma shaved ice since the 1940s, heaped with fruit and condensed milk in bear-face form.
The Mujaki parlor in Kagoshima's Tenmonkan arcade invented shirokuma (white bear) shaved ice in the 1940s, a mountain of fluffy ice drizzled with condensed milk and topped with colorful fruits, mochi, and sweet bean paste arranged to resemble a bear's face. The portions are enormous and shareable. The surrounding Tenmonkan arcade is Kagoshima's main shopping and nightlife district, lined with izakayas and kurobuta pork restaurants.
