Overview
Pilgrimage temple 63 in Saijo, the only one on the circuit enshrining Bishamonten, god of fortune.
Temple 63 on the Shikoku pilgrimage, Kichijyoji sits in Saijo and is dedicated to Bishamonten, one of the four heavenly kings in Buddhist tradition and a deity associated with protection and good fortune. The grounds are compact, with the main hall, Daishi hall, and a small ceremonial gate arranged in a traditional pilgrimage temple layout. Stone markers bearing pilgrims' names and prayers line the approach. Saijo is known for its water, with natural spring water flowing freely from pipes throughout the city, and the surrounding area is among the more prosperous sections of Shikoku's pilgrimage route. The temple is a short walk from Iyo-Komatsu Station.
