Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route connecting Nagano and Toyama through Northern Alps, 20m snow corridor walls in spring.
The Snow Corridor at Tateyama is a stretch of road carved through walls of snow reaching up to 20 meters, open from mid-April through June at 2,450 meters elevation. Visitors walk between towering white cliffs, flanked by surfaces that dwarf passing buses, while peaks of the Northern Japan Alps rise above. The full Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route connects Toyama and Nagano prefectures through cable cars, ropeways, trolley buses, and highland buses. At Murodo Station near the top, hiking trails reach volcanic hot springs and mountain viewpoints. Golden Week in late April brings the tallest snow walls and the largest crowds.
