Overview

Toyouke Omikami, the deity of agriculture and livestock-raising and the tutelary kami of food, is worshipped here. Described in old texts as having presented food to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami, Toyouke is also sometimes identified as a moon deity or water deity. In Nagata, this connection is popularly linked to ideas of rebirth and renewal and, therefore, prosperity. Visit this modest shrine on its autumn festival day, typically held in September, when residents gather for song and dance, and feasts of sashimi and venison are washed down with sake and beer.
