Overview
A 160-year-old ryotei restaurant where samurai once dined, now serving exquisite kaiseki with harbor views.
Founded in 1863 on the Noge hillside, Tanaka-ya is Yokohama's oldest continuously operating restaurant. The wooden building has hosted everyone from feudal lords to foreign diplomats during the port-opening era. Today, guests are seated in private tatami rooms overlooking the city and served multi-course kaiseki meals that blend traditional Japanese cuisine with subtle Yokohama-port influences.
Local tips
Reserve a room on the upper floor. The third-floor corner room has the best harbor view, especially at sunset when the port cranes light up.
