玉陵
Monumental stone mausoleum of the Ryukyuan kings built into a limestone cliff.
The imposing royal mausoleum for the Sho Dynasty of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Built into a natural cliff face, the massive stone complex is heavily influenced by Chinese architectural styles. The quiet, enclosed courtyard provides a stark contrast to the nearby bustling Shuri Castle.
Look closely at the stone lions guarding the tombs, as each one features a uniquely carved expression.
