Takoyaki Juhachiban
restaurant
たこ焼十八番
Unique takoyaki with a crispy texture created by mixing tenkasu (tempura scraps) into the batter.
Juhachiban makes takoyaki differently from most of the competition in Osaka. The batter is mixed with tenkasu, those loose tempura crumbs left over from the frying vat, which gives the outer surface more crunch and a slightly nuttier flavor. Inside, the octopus remains soft and the filling stays molten. The result is a firmer, crispier ball than the standard version. It is a quick-stop spot, good for a few pieces while walking through central Osaka or as a warm snack between longer meals.
