Overview
Small, historic community bathhouse featuring a waterfall-style hot spring inlet.
Traditional public bathhouse located behind the Naruko Onsen Shrine. It is the symbol of the Naruko Onsen district, featuring an all-wood interior made of aromatic Hiba and cypress. The bath is famous for its 'waterfall' inlet, where scalding hot sulfur water cascades down a wooden chute into the pool. This is a no-frills, communal experience popular with local residents. The water is strongly acidic and milky, believed to be highly effective for skin ailments. There are two pools of different temperatures; visitors should be prepared for the main pool to be significantly hotter than standard commercial onsens. It provides one of the most authentic and affordable bathing experiences in Miyagi.
Local tips
There are no showers or soap provided; it is a traditional soak-only facility. Use the 'medium' temperature pool in the back if the main waterfall pool is too intense.
