武雄温泉楼門
Nail-free vermilion gate by Tokyo Station's architect, hiding zodiac carvings that complete a set of 12.
A vermilion two-story gate designed by Tatsuno Kingo, the architect behind Tokyo Station, completed in 1915 without a single nail. The ceiling panels of the second floor hide carvings of four zodiac animals that, combined with Tokyo Station's eight zodiac reliefs, complete the full set of twelve. The 1,300-year-old hot springs behind the gate have alkaline waters known for their silky texture.
