Mountaintop stone walls floating above autumn cloud seas, called Japan's Machu Picchu.

Stone walls perched at 353 meters emerge from a sea of autumn clouds on one in three mornings between October and November, earning the name "Japan's Machu Picchu." The castle was built around 1441 and dismantled after the Battle of Sekigahara, leaving only dramatic ishigaki foundations stretching along a mountain ridge. The Ritsuunkyo viewpoint across the valley offers the iconic unkai photograph at sunrise.

Local tips

Climb to the top floor for panoramic views. The steep stairs inside are part of the original defensive design.
