高岡大仏
16-meter copper Buddha crafted over 30 years using Takaoka's traditional metalcasting heritage.
Standing 16 meters tall in central Takaoka, this copper Great Buddha took 30 years to cast using the city's traditional copperwork techniques. Completed in 1933 after two predecessors were destroyed by fire, it ranks alongside Nara's and Kamakura's as one of Japan's three great Buddhas. The hollow interior houses a gallery of smaller Buddhist paintings and sculptures.
