立杭陶の郷
800-year-old pottery village with 50 studios and Japan's oldest surviving 47-meter climbing kiln.
Nestled in a mountain valley, roughly 50 pottery studios line a 4-kilometer village road producing Tamba-yaki, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kiln traditions dating back 800 years. The surviving 47-meter climbing kiln is the oldest Tamba kiln in existence, built into the mountainside with nine firing chambers. Visitors can throw their own pots, browse studio galleries, and eat off Tamba ware at local restaurants.
