洲崎寺
Overview
Susakiji Temple in Mure is believed to have been established in the early ninth century by the priest Kukai (774–835), who founded the Shingon school of Buddhism.
Susakiji Temple in Mure traces its founding to the priest Kukai in the early ninth century, and served as a field hospital for Minamoto warriors during the 1185 Battle of Yashima. Though it has been rebuilt repeatedly after damage and fire, the current structures date to 1699. The temple sits just outside the official 88-temple Shikoku Pilgrimage as a recognized optional stop. Its rock garden, completed in 2013, offers something rare: a bird's-eye recreation of the Battle of Yashima's geography, with carefully arranged rocks and moss representing the plateau, mountain, and hidden bays where the Taira fleet once sheltered.
