The Suonada Sea forms the northwest portion of the Seto Inland Sea, bordered by Yamaguchi to the north, Fukuoka to the west, and Oita to the south. The Kunisaki Peninsula pushes into this stretch of water, and the coastal areas of Usa, Bungotakada, and Kunisaki look out across it from the peninsula's north shore. The inland sea setting keeps waves relatively calm year-round, with winter winds suppressed by surrounding mountains. That calm water supports rich marine life, and the coast around here is known for razor clams, crabs, and fresh shrimp. The Matama Coast and the cape of Nagasakibana offer some of the area's best views across the water.
