Summit of Mt. Yadake
nature
矢岳山頂
Mt. Yadake at 971 meters is one of the older volcanic formations on the Shimabara Peninsula, created between 300,000 and 150,000 years ago. From the summit, the younger, taller peaks to the north are clearly visible: Mt. Myoken at 1,333 meters and Mt. Heisei Shinzan at 1,486 meters, which erupted as recently as 1995. Tachibana Bay stretches to the northwest, and the Chijiwa Fault is visible as a distinct line between the peninsula and the rest of Nagasaki Prefecture. On clear days, the Ariake Sea appears to the east with Kumamoto Prefecture beyond. The summit is accessible via marked trails from the Unzen resort area.
