Suirennuma

Marsh in Towada, part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, that fills with white water lily blooms from late June through August. Wooden boardwalks extend out over the still water, letting visitors walk directly among the flowers without disturbing the habitat. The blossoms are densest in July, when the surface is nearly covered and the air above the marsh is quiet apart from frogs and dragonflies. The surrounding area is forested with beech and oak, and the marsh sits a short distance from the main Lake Towada visitor area. Outside the lily season, the boardwalks still provide access to a reflective wetland environment that holds birds and aquatic plants year-round.
