Star Village Achi
landmark
スタービレッジ阿智
Japan's official best stargazing spot offers winter tours to observe constellations from Nagano's high-altitude village.
Achi village in the southern Japanese Alps sits at over 900 meters elevation with minimal light pollution, and has been recognized internationally for the quality of its night sky. The Hirugami Kogen area runs guided stargazing tours and gondola rides to elevated viewing platforms after dark. On clear nights the Milky Way is clearly visible with the naked eye, and the gondola provides a wider field of view than most low-altitude sites. Summer and autumn offer the clearest conditions, though winter nights are sharper with less humidity.
