Sounkyo Visitor Center
Overview
Free national-park information center at the base of the Kurodake ropeway, with Daisetsuzan terrain models, ranger reports, and trail-condition updates.
The Sounkyo Visitor Center sits at the back of the village adjacent to the Kurodake Ropeway base station. The main hall holds a large terrain model of Daisetsuzan National Park, illustrated guides to the peaks and calderas, and ranger-board trail conditions updated daily during hiking season. A small theater shows seasonal nature films. Free admission; closed Wednesdays in winter.
