Sosei River Greenway
park
創成川グリーンベルト
A tranquil linear park along Sapporo's founding waterway, with sunken gardens, public art, and seasonal flower displays beloved by local office workers.
Created through ambitious urban renewal, this greenway follows the canal that Sapporo's original settlers dug in the 1860s. The sunken park design links north and south underpasses with terraced gardens, water features, and sculptures. Cherry trees line the banks in spring, and the east side has emerged as a quiet dining neighborhood. Most tourists never venture here despite it being steps from the city center.
Walk the east bank at lunch hour when office workers fill the benches. The adjacent cafes on Sosei-gawa East have some of the best reasonably priced lunch sets in Sapporo.
