Sokodai Observatory

Sokodai Observatory, meaning two lakes observatory, sits 680 meters above sea level and looks out over Lake Penketo and Lake Panketo, two of the three lakes that formed when ancient volcanic activity divided the original Lake Akan. The drive takes about fifteen minutes from the Akankohan Eco-museum Center on National Highway Route 241. In autumn, the view across the forested caldera rim turns deep red and gold. Early mornings are especially rewarding, when wisps of fog move through the valley between the peaks. The observatory is straightforward to reach by car and a clear window into the scale of the Akan Caldera.
