Shurakuen

Edo-period strolling garden in Tsuyama, Okayama, designed in 1657 by the second lord of the Tsuyama Domain as a leisure retreat for his retainers. The garden centers on a large pond with several islands connected by stone bridges, surrounded by mature pines, wisteria arbors, and well-maintained lawn. Unlike many Japanese gardens that were later altered, Shurakuen retains much of its original layout, lending it an authentic historical character. Cherry blossoms in spring and lotus flowers in summer are seasonal highlights. Admission is free, which makes it an especially welcoming stop during a visit to Tsuyama's castle ruins nearby.
