One of Kyoto's oldest incense houses (founded 1705) offers workshops where you blend your own incense from natural ingredients including sandalwood, agarwood, and cinnamon. The experience includes a brief kodo (incense appreciation) ceremony.
Local tips
The flagship Karasuma store has the full workshop. The smaller branch shops only sell products.
