Shorinzan Daruma Temple

Birthplace of Japan's daruma doll tradition, this Obaku Zen temple built in 1697 overflows with thousands of red daruma dolls offered by wish-makers. The January 6-7 Daruma Market draws massive crowds from across Kanto who come to purchase new dolls and return fulfilled ones. Year-round, visitors can paint their own daruma with one eye and return to fill the second after their wish comes true.
