Shogenji Temple

Shogenji is a Jodo Buddhist temple that stood near the magistrate's office of Iwami Ginzan for most of the Edo period, and its grounds serve as a record of who held power in the silver-mining town. Six magistrates are buried here alongside members of Omori's wealthiest merchant families. The temple is entered through a 10-meter gate from 1772, decorated with carved guardian lions, dragons, and elephant heads by a local artisan. The main hall dates to 1867 and houses an Amida Buddha statue beneath a decorated ceiling. Further up the hill, a Toshogu shrine enshrines Tokugawa Ieyasu and includes monuments to 11 of his successors.
