Shizukuishi Anekko Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki)

道の駅 雫石あねっこ
Japan’s roadside stations, or michi-no-eki, serve as convenient centers for travelers, offering services such as restaurants and takeout food, tourist information, gift items, and clean restrooms.
Shizukuishi Anekko is one of Japan's michi-no-eki roadside stations, but it goes well beyond the basics with four restaurants, a large hot spring facility offering both Western and Japanese baths, and extensive gift shops stocked with local crafts and food. The Hitomebore soft-serve ice cream made with Shizukuishi milk is a crowd favorite. Outside, there is open space for children, and a short walk over the bridge leads to a campground with river views. Mosaic artworks along the bridge feature anekko characters, an affectionate local dialect word for a young woman, drawn from a regional folktale about five princesses. Clean restrooms, tourist information, and free parking round out the stop.
