Shiroyama Tenshukaku Observation Deck
城山天守閣展望台
Overview
Rural lookout above a valley landscape of forested hills, rice fields & village farmhouses.
A short forest trail climbs to this castle-tower viewing platform above Shirakawa in Gifu Prefecture, where the reward is a sweeping panorama of rice paddies, traditional farmhouses, and forested hills spread across the valley below. The platform takes its name from the castle-tower style structure housing it, though it is a viewpoint only, not a historical site. Early morning visits are especially atmospheric when mist fills the valley floor. Autumn brings the forested hillsides alive with color. For the most iconic views of Shirakawa-go's gassho-zukuri landscape, this is the place to be.
