Overlooking Toba Bay, Shiroyama Park is famous for its cherry blossoms in the spring.
Shiroyama Park occupies the site of Toba Castle, a sixteenth-century sea-facing fortress built by the naval commander Kuki Yoshitaka around 1594. The castle was designed with a gate opening directly onto the bay and a moat accessible to boats, positioned to control the harbor traffic. Stone walls with drainage gaps still stand throughout the park, showing how the structure would have overlooked Toba Bay. Today the park is best known for cherry blossoms in spring, with trees framing views of Mikimoto Pearl Island and the offshore islands beyond. It's a ten-minute walk from the station.
