塩原温泉
Shiobara Onsen spreads across a valley carved by the Hoki River between Mt. Nasu and Mt. Takahara, with eleven separate hot spring communities developed around clusters of springs that bubble up along the riverbanks. Suspension bridges link the two sides of the valley. Each area contains multiple individual springs, varying in color from gray and black to milky white, gold, pale green, and reddish brown, and classified across six mineral types including sulfur, chloride, and hydrogen carbonate springs. The range of pH levels, from acidic to weak alkaline, means visitors can choose baths with quite different effects on the skin.
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
